ISGSB Systems Biology Course

ISGSB Systems Biology Course

A free pre-conference course, held immediately before ISGSB 2026.

About the course

In this modelling course, we will explain from first principles:

  1. Enzyme kinetics, from simple enzymes such as triose phosphate isomerase (single substrate and product) to multi-subunit cooperative multi-reactant enzymes such as phosphofructokinase.
  2. Stoichiometric models of metabolism, from simple ones you can solve by hand to genome-scale ones you solve with flux balance analysis.
  3. Kinetic models of metabolism, built from the enzyme kinetics of the individual enzymes and the stoichiometry of their reactions.

In all these cases, we will work with actual experimental data and not only with theoretical examples that might be very illustrative but far removed from real life. We will also discuss which experiments are associated with those computational and theoretical methods. So this course is of interest to the experimentalist, the bioinformatician and the modeller.
